Welcome to GeoCourse Marymount
This web page is the beginning of a new strategy of teaching you the fundamental aspects of plane geometry and geometric measurements. Of all of the different branches of mathematics, geometry has the greatest amount of technological resources available to learn. By its very nature, geometry is interactive and hands-on. Beginning in 5th grade, you will begin to review topics that you have learned in primary school through this course. In 6th grade you will learn nearly all aspects of geometry through this course. It requires you to be organized and responsible, but will also allow you to use many different tools to help learn and apply what you learn about geometry. The idea will be for you to continue to advance your learning about geometry and to apply what you learn using on-line courses throughout your years here at Marymount.
5th Grade Course
In 5th grade you will use the course to review the characteristics of plane geometry that you have learned in primary school. You will also review how to measure geometric shapes and then apply your skills to solving more complex problems. The GeoCourse for 5th grade is used as an additional resource, because in the classroom you will learn how to use geometric tools, construct geometric figures, and to work with figures on a coordinate plane. Each activity is designed to be completed within 20 and 25 minutes, and will be done as homework. It will count towards your project grade for the school's Geometry course.
6th Grade Course
Beginning in 6th grade you will use the course as your primary source for learning geometry. You will review topics that you learned in 5th grade, as well as learned more advanced topics involving constructions, coordinate geometry, and the movement of geometric figures. All of your work will be done as part of your daily homework. Each topic contains the lesson objective, a video, an interactive activity, a graded assignment, a self-evaluation, and links for extra help on the topic. Each topic will be learned in two 15-minute blocks of time. The course will be part of the homework, participation, and quiz grades of the school's Geometry course
